Hello World!
I'm Kaan, a master
student at
EPFL SysCom.
Kaan Okumus, 2019
Biography
Kaan Okumus received the B.Sc. degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, Turkey, in 2021, with a specialization in signal processing and telecommunications. He received the M.Sc. degree in communication systems from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland, in 2023. His master’s thesis was conducted at the Imaging Systems Group, EPFL, under the supervision of Dr. Matthieu Simeoni, and focused on graph signal processing methods for inverse problems. During his time at EPFL, he also worked as a research assistant and contributed to the development of the open-source Python package Pyxu.
Since 2023, he has been pursuing the Ph.D. degree with the Communication Systems Group, Department of Electrical Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden, under the supervision of Prof. Giuseppe Durisi and Prof. Erik G. Ström.
His research interests are in wireless communications and information theory, with a particular focus on massive random access systems. His current work emphasizes scalable and practical algorithm design for large-scale wireless systems, with applications to distributed MIMO architectures, federated learning, and multi-target localization. He is a graduate student member of the IEEE.

Charge-pump PLL (CP-PLL) is implemented for wired communication. Differential evolution and genetic algorithms are analyzed and implemented for the optimization of PLL performance parameters. A graphical user interface is designed to provide a complete application that wraps everything implemented with a visually appealing interface.

I contributed to the development of Pyxu v2. Pyxu is a Python 3 package for solving linear inverse problems with state-of-art proximal algorithms. The software implements in a highly modular way the main building blocks cost functionals, penalty terms and linear operators of generic penalised convex optimisation problems.
